Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Children as young as 6 years old can be added as a joint account holder with a parent or legal guardian. Both the child and the parent must be present at a branch to open the account. Children under 6 may use a custodial savings account instead.
Yes. As a joint account holder, you have full visibility into all transactions. You can also opt in to receive duplicate alerts for your child's account, so you get a push notification every time they use their debit card — the same alert they receive.
Spending limits and merchant category restrictions are managed through the Federal Crown Bank Mobile Banking app under Card Settings. You can set daily transaction limits, block specific merchant types (like gaming or gambling), and instantly freeze or unfreeze the card at any time.
Children's accounts (joint with a parent) under age 25 have no monthly maintenance fee. The parent's own checking account (Advantage Plus or Relationship) has its normal monthly fee, which is waivable. There is no additional fee to link or manage family accounts through the app.
At age 18, the account can be converted to a Student Checking account in the child's name only, removing the parent as a joint holder. This requires the young adult's consent and a visit to a branch. Until converted, the parent retains full access as a joint account holder.
